Taylor - Jan 29, 2000 - 10:31:07 portland,OR [usa] Hi, we just got our first pyrenees. He is 3 months old. He's big and beautifull. He likes to sleep alot. We cant tell if it is because he is depressed. Where trying to get him used to our cat. He seems to want to play with him but the cat is freaked out. Oden (our pyrenees)seems to not like to be alone. Maybe because he's in a new place. Well anyways he has a great personality and we are very happy to have such a beautifull dog. Does anyone have any advise on his breed? to keep him extra happy and healthy? |

Sutton - Jan 29, 2000 - 1:16:02 Taylorsville, Ga [U.S.A.] For about ten years my family has been raising Alpine Dairy Goats and Registered Great Pyrenees Guard Dogs. Before we started rasing these dogs, we would commonly lose piglets from coyotes. Since we've had these wonderful dogs, we havn't lost a animal from predators. Our dogs have beautiful coats and a loving personality. Our dogs work in shifts! One dog will guard, and the other dog will sleep. They switch out about every hour or so! All of the people who have bought our dogs have loved their personalities and have had no problems with them. Thanks to all who have bought from our herd, and good luck to you. This is a wonderful website to learn information about your new Pyrenees. Thank you, Amy Sutton |

Cudney - Jan 26, 2000 - 4:41:51 Cazenovia, NY [USA] I am just starting research on the breed. We are thinking about getting a dog and trying to figure out the best breed for us and for the dog. 4:55:16 Philomath,Oregon [usa] Love the dogs. We have had one. Tasha. She lived to about 9 years and 130 pounds. She was great with the family and protected our sheep. Twice getting in fights with coyotes, winning both times ( no injuries and no lost sheep). Our only complaint was that she thought the universe was hers and when out with us would take off, she had no fears. She died of shoulder cancer. We were told this was normal for the breed. She also had two surgeries on her back knees, again is that normal for the breed . Her back legs were her weakest part of her body and for a female she was huge ( tall as well as broad). we loved her dearly and miss her a lot. We have moved to a new farm that is not fenced so we are afraid to get another pyreneese ( that wondering thing of theirs), but want one real bad. A 6 week old female from big parents would do nice. Anyway neat to find this site. |

Peterman - Jan 25, 2000 - 02:28:29 Houston [USA] My kids and I love our Great Pyrennes. This is the second Pryrenees we have had. His name is Major and he goes to work with me every day. His is all white and weighs in at 120 pounds. Major loves to swim and go for rides in the car. He is full of personality and loves people. I will never have any other breed of dog. Major is a true gentle giant. |

Glass - Jan 24, 2000 - 7:17:41 Coeur d'alene [usa] We have an 8 month old Pyr named Sasha and she is wonderful! I am very happy we decide to add a Pyr to our family although it is a bit strange to have an 80lb puppy running around trying to sit in our laps. I just recently gave birth to a little girl in November'99 and Sasha is very good with the baby-hasn't shown any signs of jelousy-just waits her turn for attention when the family is all together in the evenings. We have two other dogs, a 7year old Chesapeake Bay Retreiver and a 3year old miniature American Eskimo. They usually get along well, but our Pyr is staring to challenge our Chessie for dominance and they get quite agressive with each other. Any suggestions? |

Brady - Jan 24, 2000 - 5:19:27 Adams [Berkshire] I really enjoy the Great Pyrenees Connection. I have a 2 1/2 year old Pyr whose name is Dakota. He is the most lovable dog. We actually call him Lug-A Bug. He sure does have a mind of his own and he really enjoys barking at everything. He has the kindest eyes. His favorite place to be is on the couch and when he can he tries to sneak on the bed. He really does'nt care if someone is already laying on the couch because he'll just jump right on top of you. We really love Pyr's and I would definetely get another one! |
| Donna
Harris - Jan 24, 2000 - 5:03:02 Ottawa, Ontario [Canada] The wandering trait of the Pyr is very clear in Clara. She is now four years old. I still insist on letting her run off lead to bunny hunt (or bunnies hunt her is probably closer to the truth) or chase squirrels for a couple of hours. We now have have a bit of a routine. I usually come out of the bush ahead of her and wait for in the car. She comes out after 20 minutes or an hour later looking a little stressed as to my where abouts but realizes, with great joy, that I am waiting for her by the car. I love her dearly but after some of her jaunts I wonder if a Pyr is what I would want for my next dog. I do have a question. Is if normal for Pyrs not to be able to digest human food (mixed in with dry dog food). As a result, she throws up every time so obviously she only gets her dry food with the occasional pizza crust or bacon fat. It is too expensive to feed her raw meat. Perhaps this vomitting problem is just bad breeding? Thanks for listening. Donna |

Jan 21, 2000 - 05:53:18 Huntington Beach [USA] My husband and I rescued our pyr, Kola, 10 months ago at a shelter. He turned 2 years old this month. He is the joy of our lives! He was adopted the day after we had to put one of our other "children" to sleep of 4 years due to hip dysplasia. Kola filled the void in not only our lives but our other dogs lives as well. The dog we put to sleep was our golden retrievers best friend and was horribly depressed. When we brought Kola home she brightened up again. He also fit in immediately with our 2 other dogs, four cats and random birds and other exotics. He lets our cats "make biscuits" on him and fall asleep. He is extremely attentive to me at all times, as has actually been extremely easy to obedience train. He never stops looking at me when we're working, I am a dog trainer and I'm getting him ready to compete in obedience and get his CD. I have to say that my husband and I have become completely addicted to this breed and will always have at least one!! |

Jan 21, 2000 - 00:43:40 Virginia Beach, VA [USA] My brother had a Great Pyrenees. Unfortunately she contracted tumor common to the Great Pyrenees and other large dogs. Before she left us she had a litter of pups. I kept one of them and I love my Pyrenees, Beau, dearly. We just recently moved to the area and he attracts a lot of attention. One neighbor comments that the sight of him makes her happy. Great Pyrenees are very loving and loyal. They may not come at every command, but that's part of their character. They can be very independent. |

I have no idea who the previous owner is. We named him BEN,(Gentle Ben). He has fit right in to our family,2children,2 cats, one other dog and a bird! We are all very attached already. I'm sad to say that we feel Ben would be happier if he was on a farm working like he is suppose to be doing. I would love to hear from you if you are interested in him. He is a wonderful pet! Mauro-Healy - Jan 18, 2000 - 7:29:49 Maine [USA] I love the site. Our 15 week old pyr named Myka is growing body, mind, and soul. Myka is such a wonderful addition to the family (4 children, 2 other canines, and our cat). The 10" snow fall was a great gift for Myka, he loves the New England winter. I do have a question for anyone that can help. At what age do Pyr pups usually switch from puppy food to dog food? 3 months, 6 months? Please help, Myka already prefers sneaking the dog food rather than going for his puppy brand. |

All were marked like Sampson. We should have another liter around January 6th. They are fun to raise and it is hard not keeping each and every one of them. Jan 6, 2000 - 06:48:40 [USA]I just bought my second Pyr......he is 9 wks old....My first one happened just to be a rescue dog......I spent the better of 6 months getting Frosty back to normal......I have had him now for 2 years. I own a boarding stables here in Tenn. He is the hit of the barn.....and does a great job guarding the horses. Every trail ride that leaves the barn, Frosty goes too. He was the first time I had been near a Pyr, what a stroke of luck for me......The breed is wonderful....! He keeps stray dogs away, but welcomes those who come with their owners to see their horses. I have never met another dog as bright as these are....I have 135 acres here, and he watches it all. Plus I gained a very good friend.......Thank you........Marsha |

Fountain - Jan 4, 2000 - 05:10:21 Cosby [USA] My friend is seriously thinking of getting a Great Pyrenees and I told her I would do some research on the net. Can you sent me some specs about these beautiful animals, size, life span, temperament, that kind of information. She lives in the mountains of east Tn. and fell in love with one she saw. Thanks for your help. Marsha |

Jan 4, 2000 - 02:31:45 Franklin [USA] We have two Great Pyrs....They have taught me just how big one's heart can be. Larie is almost 3...Mikey almost 2. I work as a nurse with the elderly. I bring them to work with me. To see the face of a lonely elder full of emptiness change to absolute delight is amazing. My elders refer to these two as "their polar bears". They will just lay next to someone in a wheelchair with their heads on their feet. They will nestle their noses into someone else's lap. They will sit and nudge someone else's hand for a bit of ear scratching and patting. And all the while they have no idea the spark of life they have put into these frail gentle peoples lives. They are surely a masterpiece of God's love. |

Stephens - Jan 4, 2000 - 00:48:40 Altus [Oklahoma United States] I had a pyrenees named "Barkley". He was the best dog I ever had. He has been gone now for about 5 years And we miss him, would love to have another. Looking at the photographs on this website is very nice. Thank you. |

Rozza - Jan 4, 2000 - 00:13:05 Atlanta [Georgia] I am interested in a great pyrenees...they seem to be the "gentle giants" of the dog world. I am interested in learning more about the breed. I live in Atlanta and wonder if the climate would be o.k. Also, can you tell me a bit about the temperament of these great dogs? What should I look for when looking at a prospective addition to our family? |

Fayerberg - Jan 2, 2000 - 9:51:34 Bertram, TX [USA] I'm a dog lover, well animal lover really, and I'm looking for a good herding dog. I live on a ranch that curently we only run goats on, but possible cows, donkey, and horse are possible. I need the type of dog I choose to be kid freindly, because we are going to have a baby and my mother has a back problem. So, the dog would also need to have great compasion. I'm browsing, but the Pyrenes and Newfoundlands look very good. |
| Gary,
Barb, Jess and Dylan Seaman - Jan 2, 2000 - 9:31:32 West Alexander, Pa. [USA] Our Pyr is Brisco, a 5 year old male who is a brother, son, pillow, listener, and playmate to us. As I look upon his greatness while writing this, it's hard to imagine how life was before he entered our home. He is definitely our Guardian and Friend and has won his place as a member of our family. |

stacy - Jan 2 2000 - 01.18 covington [usa] i received my beautiful pup two days after christmas - what a wonderful surprise. She is a beautiful 6 1/2 wk. old pup. Her call name is Alli, i haven't decided on her "offical" name yet. We have had so much fun with her - she has quite a personality and gets along well with our 6 yr. old yellow lab/german shepard mix. Our oldest daughter doesn't want to go back to college because she'll miss her growing up. We had a gp mix before our lab mix - he had to have one of his back legs amputated because he was ran over by a car, but he still lived a very long and prosperous life with us - our greatest memories of him our how gentle and protective he was and how whenever we had a snowstorm he waould be laying out in the yard with his head held up high like it was the greatest feeling in the world. What a wonderful breed gp are and we are looking forward to our adventures with Alli. -- |

- Jan 1 2000 - 07.44 Spring Hill [USA] I would like some info on this breed of dog. I have always had big dogs ex./Rotties. I know they can only tolerate so much heat, my husband (which is new to Florida), had a Great Pyrenees in Ohio, and that was his breed . I am afraid to subject such an animal to Florida if it would be cruel. I love all dogs and when I was a child and lived in Canada I had wanted a Newfoundland, but I couldn't bear to bring one here with the heat. If you could or would let me know what to do, I would appreciate it, thank you. Vicki -- |
