cramer - Mar 15, 2000 - 8:06:14 hallstead pa. [usa] Hi everyone, I have 2 Pyrs now and have just recently given my friend one of our dogs. I also have a litter of beautiful Pyr puppies! What dolls! I too, have amazing stories to tell about the breed, especially my 6 year old male, Nicky. He has saved me from harm many times and I travel everywhere with him. They are a very unique, wonderful breed. As beautiful on the "inside" as well as the outside! |

Robinson - Mar 15, 2000 - 05:41:29 Orange, CA [USA] Great Pryenees are wonderful dogs. No words could ever express my graditude to my dog, Cody. I'd like to share a very special story of how wonderful and special a Great Pyrenees could be. Though they could be barkers, over protective, and stubborn at times, none of this out weighs his love and dedication to his family. Cody is 3 years old, sensitive and caring dog. He saved me by saving my spirit. My husband and I had Cody since he was 3 months old. The minute we first laid eyes at our local pet store we immediately fell in love with this adorable fur ball. Cody is very special to me and truly is a "woman's best friend". This story begins when my husband and I started to try to have children for almost 2 1/2 years. I have a delicate condition which involves my reproductive system. About five years ago, I had a myomectomy, which means the front side of my uterus is artificial. After trying to 2 1/2 years, I thought for sure that my dream of having a child would never come true. Well, my dream did come true on 7-99 but ended up in a nightmare when I had a miscarriage. It was really odd for me to see that Cody knew that I was pregnant. Cody would always greet us by sniffing and smelling, but after I got pregnant, he began to concentrate on my stomach area. He seemed to check up on me by smelling and sniffing my stomach all the time. The day I had the miscarriage, he knew. Cody had this look in his eyes that something had happened. Cody sadily looked up into my eyes and put his head on my lap. I really believed that Cody was just as sad as I was when I lost the baby. After I had the miscarriage, I had spells of crying and was overwhelmed by sadness. Cody was always there besides me to try to cheer me up by barking happily and/or ran around the house to tell me to stop stressing out since it made him stressed out. He would often try to get a laugh out of me by acting really silly. Cody never really left my side. He would always sit right next to me. When I started to cry, Cody would come up to me and put his head right underneath my arm, so that I'd put my arms around him, this was his way comforting me. Through his companionship and his love, I was able to overcome this devastating ordeal. Three months later I became pregnant again, now I am 22 weeks pregnant and Cody still checks up on me regularly. I really think Cody is more nervous than I am about this pregnancy!! |

Backlund - Mar 14, 2000 - 00:09:57 Walla Walla [US] Proud Pyr owner of three weeks. I adopted Bonny from the local shelter and am the third owner she has had since she was born 18 months ago. How can such a wonderful dog have been so misunderstood. All it takes is a lot of love, patience and training. Oh yeah, and you have to be smarter than the dog! Great site! |

Chris Cowl - Mar 12, 2000 - 1:40:16 Adelaide [Australia] Our near one year old puppy pyr named Rosey has shortened our garden hose down from about 10 metres to 3 metres and also likes socks and shoes, all of which we have learnt not to leave lying around anymore. Apart from that she eats proper stuff, likes lying around, and we love her heaps!!!!! |

Mar 11, 2000 - 7:36:45 Zeigler [USA] Our GP is 7 months old, & 77 pounds. She gets bigger each day. Sydney is a big beautiful animal. She's not the laid back type we thought she was going to be though! She is all puppy & can wear you out fast! We also have an Australian Shepherd in the house & when these two play, get ready to rumble!! She is never far from me & hates it when we are gone. She knocks us down as soon as we enter the door. We love her like a child. She is a lively bundle for our aussie, but they are both loved dearly, & irreplacable! |

Browne - Mar 6, 2000 - 8:04:50 Camarillo [USA] I am the proud owner of a seven week-old pyr puppy(Bonnie). But we are having trouble with her. She is WAY too skinny. The bones on her back are prominent. We have her on baby food and bread in hopes of getting her healthy. Our vet thinks she has been vomiting alot and our newfie pup (Clyde)has been wolfing it down. She has been a lazy pup since we brought her home. The breeder said that it is normal for the breed to lounge around all day. I say that's a bunch of bull. Puppies are supposed to be active. Anyways, he wanted to exchange the puppy or give us our money back-too late for that. Bonnie is a full-fledged member of the family now. We WILL get her healthy! |

Fiolek - Mar 2, 2000 - 02:45:14 Huntsville, TX [USA] We have two great pyrs, a male, Iceberg, and a female, Cosmo. They are great dogs, however anyone wanting to purchase one should be stubborn because our two surely are. You have to be more stubborn than they are. We would not trade them for any other kind of dog. They are loveable, reliable, and very good at watching the house. We are interested in rescuing dogs that are no longer wanted so they will not be destroyed. We live on a farm and have plenty of room. If you know about any needing a home please contact us! |

Counts - Mar 2, 2000 - 01:03:30 Oyama, B.C. [Canada] We have just moved to the Okanagan Valley and would like to get in contact with other Pyr owners. Our Pyr is with Val Toth, our breeder, having her second litter of pups. We will get her (and maybe a puppy: who can resist?) in May. She is beautiful, strongly marked. She looks a bit like Queen Victoria's Caba. She hikes with us carrying a doggy back pack with her water and food. It's the way to go. |

labarko - Mar 1, 2000 - 7:38:31 johnstown [usa] My husband Mike and I got our GP, Dudley, in October of 1997. He turned three on September 21, 1999. If anybody out there has ever doubted their purchase of a great pyrennes, let me tell you about our hero, Dudley. On December 9, 1998 at 4:00 am, the house that we rented, caught fire and burned to the ground. If not for our precious Dudley, we would not be here today. He always and does to this day, sleep beside our bed. He pawed and cried to my husband that evening until we woke up and realized what was happening. We made it on to our second floor roof, with Dudley, and climbed down to safety. We lost our two adorable cats that night, but God spared us and Dudley. Not a day goes by that we do not thank God for DD. We don't have children so Dudley is like a son to us. So next time your Great Pyr snores, barks, soils the floor or just plain gets on your nerves, thank your lucky stars that they are there. We sure do! |

Feb 29, 2000 - 01:59:02 Morganville [usa] Our GP, CudaBear, just turned 1 on Feb 17. We had a party and he looked great in his party hat. I can't believe he has only been with us 9 months. I can't remember him not being there. He is so intelligent and just loves to be loved. He especially likes to play "lap dog". This is where he climbs on my husband's lap in the recliner and watches tv with us. Cuda is our first GP, but definitely not our last. He gets along great with our Irish Setter, Chance. |

Goatley - Feb 28, 2000 - 8:25:43 Tulsa, OK [USA] I have a male great pyrenees names Duke. I never knew anything about the breed until I encountered him. When I found him he was wondering the streets eating rocks for nourishment and only weighed 90 lbs. That was June 99, he now weighs in at 155 lbs has grown all his fur in looks beautiful!! From the moment I met him I knew I couldn't give him up. I work with a animal rescue organization. I originally planned on keeping Duke until he was healthy enough to be adopted. However, after 3 months I couldn't leave him anywhere that wasn't home by himself, he would whine lay down and shake. I took him to be groomed, and hour later they called me because he had defacated from fear. So needless to say we are life companions and I couldn't be happier!! I thank God for bringing this wonderful child into my life reminding me of the feeling of security. I believe that anyone who wants a dog just to love,or for kids and as a real companion, not one to put in the backyard and ignore, should have great pyrenees. |

paul - Feb 15, 2000 - 8:11:57 albany [usa] We are the proud owners of two beautiful pyrs, Merlin, 5 months and Nimue (nim-oo-way), 3 months. Our first pyr, Merlin I died of a genetic heart defect at only 6 months of age and we were devas- tated. In November, 1999 my husband surprised me with Merlin II and in January, Nimue joined us. They fill the house with noise and joyful chaos and are the most intelligent, loving, funny companions one could wish for. Although they have minds of their own, they seem to train very easily and have very distinct personalities-Merlin is Mr. Mellow and Nimue is just like a bossy old woman. They get along equally well with our cats, sheep and scot highland heifer as with the many (and varied)dogs in our rural neighborhood. I can not imagine a life now that did not include a pyr in the house.. it's an addiction! |

15, 2000 - 02:43:37 [usa]Hi, we are exploring the possibility of adding a Pyr to our family. We currently own 4 golden retrievers, which I show in both breed and obedience. Does any one have any ideas about adding a Pyr to our dog family? I am concerned about their tendency for territorialism. Thanks |

Grado - Feb 14, 2000 - 10:12:47 El Paso [United States] Hi, I have recently become the proud owner of a Great Pyrenees. He just turned two years old. He's name is Fat Tuesday, but we call him Fat's for short. He has a beautiful white coat with tan badger markings and dwarfs almost anything he stands next to. I do not know too much about this particular breed of dog and I am asking for any tips or suggestions that I should be aware of. I also just recieved his A.K.C. registration certificate and I have noticed that Fat's comes from a very extensive line of pyrs. I am very interested in putting Fat's up for stud as well and I am wondering what the best way to go about doing so. Thank you very much... Santiago |

Feb 14, 2000 - 7:13:27 Ypsilanti [USA] We have 2 pyrenees'. One is a drawf. Her name is Angel and she is the cutest dog in the world. She is 5 years old and has a max weight of 45 lbs. She has beautiful badger markings. Her size is not an obstacle, she thinks she's as big as our other pyr, Lancer (4 yrs old), who is about 95 lbs. They get along great and have both been a joy to have in our lives. |

HECKMAN - Feb 13, 2000 - 06:27:59 WERNERSVILLE [usa] We are on our second Pyr,the first was bought at a mall store and everyone looked down at her as a "puppy mill" puppy. She was very loving, smart and is sadly missed. Our second, who just turned 1 year, is from a so called breeder and we couldn't bear to leave her there. She has anicer coat and is larger then our first. We think she's spunkier too, probably 'cause our first one is looking down from above and wished it on us!Luckily both have had no hip problems. We are so glad to find this web site and the breed!!!! |

She came to us with numerous problems, she didn't have any manners and had lots of health problems. I almost didn't keep her, but after two years I dont' think I could do without her in my life. What a wonderful breed, I'll get another one some day. |

Herechuk - Feb 8, 2000 - 9:27:50 Edmonton, Alberta [Canada] Hello eveyone! As I sit here on my lunch hour looking out the window at all the snow falling, I can't help but think of how much I miss my Millar. She was 11 last year in July when she went to the "Rainbow Bridge" to be with the other Pyrs that I owned. One day I will be with her again, but for now I can only miss her. She was sure my buddy, my protector, and I miss her terribly. I love the breed and plan, very soon, to get a new puppy. We had so much fun walking everyday. She helped me to look after myself - that look and voice "Are we ready to go for our walk, Mom?" Even though there were times I didn't want to go out, Millar wouldn't have it any other way and away we went (through rain, shine, hail... just like the postman!) Walking keeps my body, heart, and mind healthy. And, her grooming, however difficult at certain times of the year, also helped me understand animals, and people, a little more. Not having Millar at the cabin last summer was very strange. It was so quiet in the B.C. bush where our property is, it was almost eerie. Last fall was the first time in 12 years that we had a bear stop by the cabin because our protector, Millar, was not there anymore. Hopefully that won't happen this year. I know its time soon to get another puppy because I had a dream last night about a pyr puppy. I don't remember my dreams usually but I have to take this as a sign that its puppy time for me. Its taken a while, but I think I've conquered my depression over the loss of my best buddy. Love your Pyr (even if they show you they have a mind of their own!) and they will love you back, more than you know. Our animals teach us so much if you allow them to. Have a great day everyone! |

8, 2000 - 08:34:07 Saratoga [USA] We have two Pyrs. Max is a one and half year old male and Jade is a five month old puppy. They are brother and sister. Max is reserved like the father but Jade is extremly affectionate like the mother. I enjoy just by looking at them. I am so in love with this breed since the very first time I saw one walking on the beach. They are very special ! |

Kelsey Bochon-Duffy - Feb 6, 2000 - 5:17:28 Edmonton,AB [Canada] We just rescued a Great pyrenese female on Sat. Feb.5. The poor girl is thin her coat is lacking luster, proper growth, etc. All in all she was mistreated . We would like to help her recover from her past life and would like some comments on normal behaviour growth expectancy. If any one can suggest some good books or articles that we can check into that would be wonderful. |
