Joy McCarron - Mar 5 1999 - 23.16 Point Pleasant Beach New Jersey 08742 I just
loved your pictures. Seeing pictures of Pyrs working is wonderful
to me!! Doing what they were bred to do. My Maggie is a, basically,
couch potato. She spends most of the winter outside laying around...OR
running around barking at the snow flakes, leaves, squirrels, etc.
Summers in the air conditioning!! But she is my friend and protector.
Thank you for a GREAT site!!!

I have a 15 week old Pyr that I can honestly say is my third
child! I have never loved a dog like I have this one. I knew nothing
about the breed until I got her (Her name is Bethany). Since getting
her I have read literally ever book on Great Pyrenees as well as
every internet site. I want to learn as much as possible so I will
be the best owner!!!!! I am amazed at the gentleness and devotion
Bethany has to my family and me already. She is intelligent also.
She already knows how to "sit", to "catch",
and to "come". She knows what "quiet" means
and what "outside" means. She especially knows what "suppertime"
means. I am keeping her inside now and hope to continue to keep
her inside at all times. Is this fair to her or should I allow her
to be an outside dog? We do live in the country and have installed
an underground electric fence for her safety, but I still want her
to be inside where I can love on her all I want. This breed is absolutely
the best! Everything I read makes me want to have even another puppy
but I better wait until Bethany gets a little older and my husband
gets a little more used to the idea of an inside dog!!!!! This breed
of dog is definitely not for everyone because they can be very stubborn.
Bethany needs consistent training and I can't let up on her at all
on what I expect her to do. I hope when she is older I won't have
to be so "on guard" all the time to make sure she is following
my rules. I love her anyway. I'm so glad I have her! http://www.greatpyrenees.com/

Michele Nimmo - Mar 2 1999 - 00.20 Coalinga Ca. What a wonderful page, loved reading
all of the stories about people who also love this wonderful breed.
I have a 7 year old female Pyr named Millie who has always been
the absolute sweetest most even tempered dog I have ever seen. She
has gone to school every year [7] with my daughter for show and
tell. It never fails that the children yell LOOK AT THAT WHITE BEAR!
But they always hug her neck then ask does she bite? Millie loved
running and playing tag with the kids years ago but now is just
happy being our resident speed bump. She still loves to bark, its
her way of saying Im on duty. If you have neighbors near by dont
get a Pyr. they bark alot and I know of no way to break them its
in there breeding. We live in central Ca. so summers can be very
hot, Millie spends her days inside sleeping under the swamp cooler.
Millie does have a moist dermatitus the vet gave her med. for it
but to no avail, the only thing Ive found that helps is a trim in
the summer and bathes in Neutrogenia T-gel shampoo, this can be
expensive since Millie weighes in at a whopping 135lbs. Millie loves
all animals and has even found baby birds on the ground and nuzzled
it with her nose to show me, I bought Millie a Pygmy goat, she loved
her but the goat got very mean to Millie so I seperated the two.
I also have 2 Australian Cattle Dogs and they try to herd Millie
but shes always very forgiving.I will always have a Pyr in my house
they are the best breed ever, so I can tolerate the drool covered
pants and hairy white furniture as part of the package.

We have 4 adult great pyrenees and are raising a pup for Mike's
mother. We have such a passion for them. They are like our children.
We love them each and every one. Gunny was our first and he is now
2 years old, just started him in "puppy" classes--people
are very impressed this huge dog can roll over!! Barbie is an older
female I rescued from the animal hospital I work at. The others,
Sid and Lindee, just "fell into our hands". Weisser will
soon go to live with Mike's mom as soon as he is crate trained--whatta
job. They are all a great enjoyment. We would be so lost without
them.

We have a 8 week old Pyr. named "Chrissy's Baron's Belasaurs

of chubaka. His nickname is Kilo, and we call him this because (1)
you cannot help but be addicted to him, (2) He is so heavy, and
(3) He is solid white. He is the greates dog. If you don't have
one, you need to get one.

things that threaten his family stay outside, its O.K. to take a

I have 2 Great Pyrenees and they are the most lovable and spoiled
dogs in the world. We got Pepsi Macu', our female, when she was
7 weeks old and she is spoiled rotten. She knows when and how to
get what she wants out of me. We got Samson BO', our male, when
he was 3 yrs old. He is so much more reserved than Pepsi. he's definitely
a gentle giant. Although they have only been together for 3 months,
they are inseparable. If we have to leave Samson home for some reason
and take Pepsi, Samson cries until we get back. I couldn't have
asked for 2 better dogs!

|
Diane - Feb 24 1999 - 21.18 Maine I have a wonderful, now 2yr old female
Pyr named Lilly! She was born on my birthday so there was no parting
us at our first meeting. Besides, the kids didn't want to drive
2 hrs.+ at night one way and not bring home a puppy! Despite husband
nearly loosing his mind over the BARKING, we have kept her and partially
solved the problem by putting her in a nice large kennel in the
garage when husband is sleeping. She is of course utterly devoted
and committed to protecting me.....even from myself if need be (she
comes to rescue me when I pinch my finger and say "Ow!"
in the basement)! She does seem to reflect my inner identity. A
friend once said that Lilly seemed to her to be my "familiar"
as cats have been portrayed in movies to their owners. So I guess
you can tell I'm a devoted Pyrenee Owner. I would love to breed
but worry about the financial commitment as far as what it costs
to actually raise a puppy to adoption age. There is also the question
of whether there are potential homes for these new puppies. Also,
how many per litter are usually born? (We are also a 4H family and
have sheep and other assorted animals. We are not irresponsible
in our breeding practices.)

gives him an enormous appetite. I don't want him always hungry &
I don't want him miserable with scratching. Has anyone else had

Onze hond is 3/4 pyreneer en 1/4 Berner Sennen. Is nu vijf maand

Mark Wallace - Feb 23 1999 - 12.56 Atlanta Ga I have been lover of Great pyr's
all my life. My aunt was a breeder and I owned a big boy named cruncher
when I was young. Since then I have owned labs and Goldens which
are great breeds but I always wanted another pyr. I moved out west
a few years ago and when I felt the time was right i decided to
go for it. I went to humane society one day and to my ammazement
there was a 7 month old Pyr there. I fell in love with him immediatly
and got him. As it turned out he was not treated very well and had
some serious behavior problems. Apparently he was tied to a tree
for the majority of his life. He is a very sweet dog and he is not
aggresive but he is very destructive loves to dig and has pretty
much desroyed the yard and part of the house. I have taken him to
training and even had a professional trainer come out and work with
him(which was a mistake. All he did was knee him so hard that he
could barely walk for two days. I almost killed the guy) Read numerous
books and nothing is working. It is getting very frustrating and
the last thing I would ever want to do is get rid of him. However
I do have to travel occasionally for my job and I have to put him
in a kennel when I do travel because my roommate can't handle him.
I love him very much and he is a sweet dog but I need help because
it is costing me an arm and a leg(sometimes literally, because he
likes to chew and when I correct him he thinks its play time and
goes beserk) Any advice would be greatly appreciated

loved and spoiled rotten. Amy got hooked on the breed and now has
two pyrs of her own - a 2+ year old male (Stosh) and an 8 month

I have a 2 yr old male. He seems to be the playful good natured
type. I liked the opinion on the temperment on the breed, but, I
do think that it was very generalized. All the Pyrs that I have
met have been playful as well as being good watchdogs, and very
good around children. I know that mine readily accepts attention
from any children. He, however, will not go anywhere near a strange
adult. http://greatpyrenees.com |

Elise Vroblick - Feb 9 1999 - 12.45 Thousand Oaks CA I had the opportunity to look

In the back of the magazine there was a pyr ad from a california

about them or has dogs that trace back to them-check your pyrs pedegree.
The picture showed a fairly classic pyr and since they were sold
as working dogs they should have been in pretty good shape hipwise.

Great page. We share our home with a 16 week old Pyr named
Cheyenne. I'm going to have to send my wife to training school because
she is having a "dominance" skirmish with Cheyenne! What
a lovable mutt...especially when she hits the snow and starts somersaulting
in joy. I worry a bit about her strange habit of sticking her face
in the snow at a full gallop, as I wonder if she might hit a buried
twig. So far we have had no problems with aggression or roaming.
(We have 16 acres of field and forest.) I'm looking forward to many
years of satisfaction and love with our Pyr.

I have a 2 year old Great Pyr named Fargo. She is 100 lbs of love
and fun! She is strictly a family pet and doesn't have any idea
what being a working dog means. We live in San Antonio where it
is very hot, so Fargo stays inside all the time where we keep the
house at a cool 60 degrees for her. My house is covered in long
white hairs, but I don't mind. Fargo is the Best!

37215 I have been interested in this breed for a long time.
Because I have moved around quite a bit I have felt that it was
selfish to own a new puppy and not have the time to spend with him/her.
However, I am finally living a more stable life and am looking to
own a Great Pyrenees soon. When I was looking initially, I was living
out west where I found it to be quite easy to locate breeders. However
now that I have moved to the South I am finding it more difficult.
DO you have any suggestions or names for me to get in touch with.
I would appreciate any information that you could get me. Thank
you. P.S. How do Great Pyrenees typically "make it" during
the summer months in the South? Any words of advice or hints. THANKS
Molly Payne

we have a female named misty. she weighs 135 lbs and has addison's
desease. she must take medication daily to stay alive. she is very
healthy otherwise and is the most affectionate dog my wife and i
have ever seen or owned. we love the breed and would like to have
a male campanion for misty someday. i have not gone through your
entire web site yet, but i like what i've seen so far. i definitly
think the pyr is the best overall dog to fall in love with.

Anita - Jan 11 1999 - 23.13 Colorado Springs CO I am looking for a show
quality male, raised with stock, good with people, to start work
with me as a mediation assistant. My bitch, Ch. Carillon's Lascivious
Conduct, currently works in the child protection mediation environment.
I'm looking for a dog with lots of Quibbletown, Rivergrove, or Soleil,
or Basquaerie with some Karolaska. This dog will have a varied life
of mountain climbing hopefully combined with service work in a courthouse
setting. Any kennels with quality stock, steady disposition, inquisitiveness,
and confidence would be of interest to me. Size is not nearly so
important as soundness of body and mind, athletic ability, and an
inquiring mind. It takes a particular Pyr to meet this differing
requirements. Thanks for any heads up to good kennels.

10 1999 - 17.01 I saw my first Great
Pyrenees at an AKC dog show in Indiana. It was love at first sight
for me. I was with a friend, Barb, and I said "one of these
days I will have one of those dogs". I called several pyr breeders
to inquire about behavior, traits, etc. I wanted one so badly! I
told each person I spoke with that I lived in a residential area
that had many small children, (and dogs running loose even with
a leash law), and that I used an invisible fence for my 2 golden
retrievers and they all said with those circumstances "no way"!
Since then, I moved to Virginia and now have 12 acres (fenced)and
a pyr! I am so glad I listened to the people who know these dogs.
Now I see why it would have been the "wrong place and the wrong
time". Barb has her own pet sitting business, and one day she
called to tell me she was caring for a pyr whose owner, Sharon,
could no longer keep him (she lived in a condo, he was getting big
fast, and she worked full-time). I got Munchie when he was 9 months
old, not neutered, and 90 lbs. It took a tremendous amount of love
for this wonderful dog to give him away so he would have a better
environment. I'll always admire and be thankful to Sharon for that,
and to Barb who remembered what I had said. Munchie is almost 3,
has been neutered, and weighs 150 lbs. He shows no signs of aggressiveness
with us (my husband and 11 yr old daughter, our other 2 dogs-a golden
and a border collie-, 2 horses, and 3 siamese cats!) I must say
there were a few rough spots while adjusting to the cats, but lucky
for them, Munchie has never been very fast! And he did chew the
arms off of 2 adirondack chairs on my front porch, but oh well.
He is now the epitome of a "gentle giant" and we adore
him. He makes strangers aware of his presence though, and the deer
grazing in our pastures drive him crazy! But he does his job and
he does it well. Munchie is a beautiful, very affectionate, intelligent,
good natured pyr. I'm so happy he found us.

I have two Pyrs, Cheyenne and Wolfie. Both were given to me
- Cheyenne in December 1996(my son swears to this day that Santa
brought his "snowdog"!), and Wolfie in September 1998.
I cannot imagine life without them, they mean worlds to me. What
is really neat about this situation is the fact that, after doing
some research and root tracing, I found out that they are actually
littermates!! Sounds like an episode of Oprah - "Littermates
reunited after three years apart....." !!! After the initial
growling and posing, and one or two minor altercations, we all settled
in together remarkably well. Cheyenne is the shy one, while Wolf
is the lumbering "Gentle Giant" welcome wagon. My friend's
3-year-old daughter is terrified of dogs, but for some reason "Wolfie"
doesn't count in that. She waits until he lays down, then curls
up in between his front and back legs, leans back on his ribs, and
uses him as an easy chair to watch T.V. AND HE LOVES IT!!!! The
dogs should run a daycare. When she comes in now, he instantly goes
into the living room and lays down in front of the T.V. It is hysterical!!!
And I am proud to report that in all the time we have been together
I have had not one single item in this house destroyed and not one,
single, solitary "accident"(Although I swear they have
met me at the door with their legs crossed on days when they had
to stay in 10-12 hours!!!) I enjoy their company immensely, and
for anyone reading this who does not yet have a Pyr, let me tell
you as a single working mother - at the end of a long day when nothing
in the world has gone right, a great big white paw or two and some
honest, soulful brown eyes looking right into you can make things
much, much better. If you don't have a Pyr, get one. And if you
don't have room for one - MOVE. I have been fortunate to get two
great ones, and I will never have anything else.

teruggekomen. Ik heb momenteel 2 Landseren, maar ben toch nog steeds
gek op een Pyreneer. Mijn Baruch (betekent gezegend....of zij dat
was of ik, ik weet het niet :-)was geweldig !!

Hi, we have a 10 month old Pyr (Harley). I wish I would have read
more about the breed. I didn't realize they were "roamers"
and had to be kept on a leash or fenced area. We have also experienced
several times that he violently attackes our smaller (40 lbs) mixed
breed over trivial things (dead frog, rock, etc.) I'm afraid one
of these times he is going to kill Albert. He pins him down and
attacks his neck. We're also afraid he will do this when your 2
1/2 year old daughter may be around. Harley is food crazy. He gets
7 cups of large breed dog food a day and is constantly looking for
more to eat. We have to separate the 2 when they eat because he'll
scarf his down and attack the other dog for his as well. I have
read a lot about aggressive behavior being a problem, should we
put him down? My daughter can pet him and we can all put our hands
in his bowl whene he's eating his dog food, but give him a bone
(basted) and we can't get anywhere near him. My husband has rolled
him over and yelled at him several times, but he's 100+ now and
I can't handle him or get him off our other dog when this happens.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Harley is very gentle and
friendly - so confusing! Please e-mail me at cafagerland@mmm.com
Thank you so much.

We have laughed at and told stories about the antics of a Pyr
who lives in a small area next to his Mommie and Daddy's house with

could stand it no longer and found Angie. We have had her for over

Laurie Gray - Nov 11 1998 - 07.18 Belleville IL I've truly enjoyed reading the
stories of others who share the love of the Pyrenees breed. I got
my first Pyr at age 3 1/2 and he was my very best friend and true
childhood companion. I still cherish a picture my mother took of
us taking our afternoon nap sharing the same pillow. "Smokey"
died when I was fifteen. Although he is still greatly missed and
fondly remembered, I have another Pyr companion in my life now who
has only comfirmed my love of this breed. "Mason" just
celebrated his first birthday. He is truly a gentle giant. He is
so affectionate and at times jealous and finds a way to wiggle his
90 lbs. plus body between my husband and I at night in bed.
