Leigh Moriarty - Aug 2 1999 - 12.39 Meredith NH I recently signed the guest book. However, I want to share something that has happened recently. We discovered that, Dryfus, my six year old pryenes has bone cancer. He has been given 3 to 6 months to live. I do not want to upset anybody. I merely want to share this information to help people avoid dealing with the grief that I am dealing with right now. We noticed a limp in Dryfus's walk. The vet stated that he had arthritis and not to worry. A few weeks later we got a second opinion and we were told the terrible news. Dryfus has a malignant tumor just above his knee. I just wanted to share this information with people that know what it is like to have this special animal as a part of their family. http://www.greatpryenese.com
| Karol Greyling - Jul 31 1999 - 17.49 Benoni Gauteng As the proud new companion of a 3 month old bundle of trouble, I decided to look for more information about the new centre of my universe. | Deanna Pyle - Jul 24 1999 - 23.02 San Antonio Texas Our 2 year old Great Pyr, Fargo shares our hearts and our home. It is very hot in Texas so she lives with us inside. We keep our house at a cool 68 degrees so she never has to be uncomfortable. She is 103 pounds of love. Fargo sleeps with us at night, tries to sit on our laps during the day and spends hours staring into our eyes with her beautiful almond shaped eyes. She has been such a joy to us, we are thinking about getting another one so we can have two! |
Mike Sandstrom - Jul 24 1999 - 23.01 Greeneville Tennesse We have 2 pyrs now and are looking for a pair of pups that have a excellent herding and protecting instinct. We live in a bear sanctuary and have cyotes that we would like to keep away from our live stock. If you have any registered pups like this to sell, please contact me.
Katy Dresnok - Jul 24 1999 - 11.56 Signal Mountain Tennessee Blanca is our 7 month old pyr. She is all about giving hugs and kisses. She spends all her time playing with Carman. Carman is a crazy red 8 month old golden retriever puppy. Blanca likes to take off wandering on hikes and Carman retrieves her. They are great for each other.
laurie weiner - Jul 23 1999 - 14.12 washington dc We rescued our 4 year old Pyr, Barney, when he was 5 months. He is quite the traffic-stopper in our nation's capital! If you're touring DC and see us walking the streets, feel free to honk and wave. Everyone else does!
Leigh Moriarty - Jul 23 1999 - 11.06 Schenectady NY I have a six year old pyr named Dryfus. He is very dear to our family and best friends with my golden retriever, Winston. I bought him myself, against the wished of my father when I was in high school. However, Dryfus is now the apple of my father's eye. http://www.greatpyrenees.com/
Valerie Bute - Jul 22 1999 - 13.54 Louisville IL My husband and I are trying to locate a Great Pyr that needs a home. We are also interested in getting involved in rescue. Please share your stories with us and let us know if there is a Pyr within driving distance needing a loving family.
jamie guthrie - Jul 22 1999 - 02.56 Edmond OK My Great Pyr's name is Beau. He is almost six months old and he is already bigger than my full grown lab. His personality is awesome. He is so loving and protective of me, but not as hyperactive as a lab
Genny Evans - Jul 21 1999 - 20.32 Palermo Maine My husband and I have 3 pyrs, Chandler, Oatey and Duke. They are such an asset to our family. They are a unique breed of dog and whenever we are out in public they always get a "Wow look at those dogs!" Of course anyone who has one is of a rare breed as well. I am excited to learn that there is a web page just for them. Thanks, genny and matt.
Kirsten - Jul 21 1999 - 13.33 Parma Heights Ohio My Pyr's name is D'Artania. He is just over 6 months old and must be the most spoiled pup ever! He is very smart, and very protective of me even at this young age. His favorite thing to do is to "push" his way between my husband and I when hug or kiss. :) D'Artania is very good with our two cats and the pet rat. He also likes to watch other dogs on television although he doesn't know quite what to make of those silly dogs who howl to pianos!
Ginger Miles - Jul 21 1999 - 08.49 Savannah Georgia I have a six-year-old Pyrenees named Chaillot (shy-yo) and a four-year-old Komondor named Sophie, both females. Chaillot and I walk along the riverfront and play "Oh What A Beautiful Dog." I have to keep Sophie's body hair cut, so everyone thinks she's a huge poodle. I leave her tail hair and her "Phyllis Diller" hairdo on her head. Chaillot has been all over the country with me, travelling and camping. The two dogs take good care of me and the five cats and two hens.
Kim & Scott Hartge - Jul 20 1999 - 21.24 Hendersonville TN We are thinking about getting a Pyrenees. They are truly beautiful dogs. How big do they generally get? Are they good travellers? Are they easy to groom -- do they have an undercoat like a Chow Chow? Are there any problems with the breed like Chows have eye lid problems, dalmations are sometimes deaf, what about hip dysplasia? Do they get along with other dogs? Thanks for any information you can give us.
Sharon Wiebe - Jul 20 1999 - 17.41 Evergreen Park Illinois I got my Great Pyr when she was 5 months old, she's wonderful. I don't know much about the breed yet. Is there anything to watch for? She's only 6 months old now and her bark is louder than my 2 year old German Shepherd. She fit right in the family from the first day.
Kimberly Guckert - Jul 20 1999 - 15.45 Saskatchewan We got our great pyr when he wasm 4 months old. His name is Jake and he is now 1 year and 4 months. He is very loyal and protective. He is happy with plenty of acres to run and play. We take him with us to many places because he is so calm and he enjoys the change of smell and scenery. He loves little kids and is extremely gentle. People think he is part saint benard so I have to explain that he is purebred. Jake is realy smart and knows plenty of tricks. We all love him and hope he stays for many years to come.
Anne Dutton - Jul 19 1999 - 12.31 Waleska GA "Edgar" is now 18 months old - we adopted him from some people who kept inside or in a crate his forst 8 months. Needless to say, Edgar loves his new home with lots of woods and space to run and play. Our gentle giant is a well-tempered, beautiful dog that we love dearly. We recently had him shaved to give him relief from the hot GA weather and even though he looks like a big white lizard, he is a happy dog.
Julie Geitgey - Jul 18 1999 - 21.58 Martinez Georgia This is a beautiful site. I really enjoy looking at the other Great Pyrenees. My Pyr's name is Andorra. Thank you.
Larry Hartshorn - Jul 17 1999 - 17.10 Ledbetter Texas I consider these dogs as beautiful animals. Question:-1. Need a dog to guard my peafowl, guineas, chickens: a raccoon, bobcat or something is killing them off. Will a Great Pyrenees perform this task? 2. How are they in the house: lots of hair dropped? Easy to keep clean? 3. Think I know of a source to acquire one but would appreciate a proven source of a quality, healthy dog. Thank you. http://greatpyrenees.com
heidi keiser - Jul 17 1999 - 16.01 lisbon ohio i use to own one, and they are great dogs, for the home, and with kids.
Cindy - Jul 16 1999 - 12.20 Gulf Breeze FL I've had the pleasure of owning 2 Great Pyrs. I bought the first one 1991 in Mississippi. Her name is MIMI. I bought another one in Defuniak Springs, FL. Her name is Lille (pronounced lilly after the town in France called LILLE). When Lille was 5 months old she bit MIMI on the throat and got blood. She was an extremely dominate dog and I'm said to say I could not keep her because of her viciousness toward MIMI. I also had a wonderful Husky @ the time. My husky died last year. The vet said it was probably her heart, although she was only 9 when she died. My ex has my great pyr now. I couldn't take her, she has a severe barking problem. She barks non-stop all day long. You can't leave your windows open at night because the least bit of noise wakes her up and she starts barking again. She is in good hands-not to worry. I gave Lille to my old boss and they love her very much. He has 3 kids and a big back yard, she loves it there. She is still vicious toward other dogs, she got out one day and beat up a black lab pretty bad.I don't care for that streak of meaness in any dog. Thanks for letting me say a few words about my dogs I love and miss them very much. Why doesn't someone tell that idiot who only feeds ger dog table food she is doing an injustice to the dog. The dog needs dog food. They have to have the proper nutrition or they won't develop normally. Would she feed her child rabbit pellets his whole life? I think NOT!!!! What an idiot. She should not have that dog.

Sherrilynn Rogers LaCueva Sibes & Poms - Jul 12 1999 - 17.34 Dayton Ohio They are a wonderful breed, truly gentle giants. I have known some to have minor temperament problems but those seem to be primarily attributable to environment and genetics. Some were just never meant to be bred. I am researching future show breeds for my kennel, and surfed onto your website from elsewhere.
Debbie LeClaire - Jul 12 1999 - 17.11 winnipeg Manitoba I have a great pyr,he is great with my family really over protective.Igot him from a spca .The owners didn't want him back ,I adopted him and he's the best dog in the world. If anyone has any info on how to control their temperment alittle please email me www.jimbobgolf@attcanada.net
Perry - Jul 12 1999 - 02.27 Conifer CO We have a wonderful 10 m/o girl, Lulu, who is the sweetest, most tolerable dog of all, although she still thinks she is a little lap puppy and eats food off the counters - we do love her so! Wonderful with kids. We are hoping to breed her eventually - anyone in Colorado with a handsome male??
Rich and Michele Owens - Jul 11 1999 - 16.49 Orlando Florida Hi! We have 3 Pyr males, 12 years, 3 years, and 6 months. They're all great dogs! except the puppy who is going through the "chewing phase", but we still love him, (at least we do AFTER we clean up the mess!)
Victor McKenzie - Jul 10 1999 - 19.00 Lakewood Oh I had a Great Pyrenees for 12 Great years..He was a great dog..I will remember him til I die.Its was the best 12 years of my love. His name was Sinckers.
Randy & Karen - Jul 8 1999 - 10.58 Salem Oregon We have a 6-month-old pyr. She is great, beautiful and stubborn. But very intelligent.
Sharon Mendoza - Jul 7 1999 - 12.40 Bakersfield California We have a Great Pyr .We got him from the Southern California Great Pyr rescue. He is a wonderful dog. We named him Sir Roy of the High Sierra. We got him when he was 14 months old. He is now almost three. His former owners had kept him tied up all the time, and had not well socialized him. Then they abused him and let him got on a beach in Santa Barbara where he wondered around for awhile and eventually got hit by a car on Highway 1. It has taken us a lot of time and love but Roy has really come around. He loves his two playmates.Nuggett our Lab/husky mix and our cat. He loves to play ball, swim, and be groomed ,but I think he is happiest when he is carrying a heavy pack into the High Sierra with me on a backpack trip.He is a mascot to a scout troop along withour other dog Nugget. He is very Playful and well adjusted dog now. He and Nuggett run around every day and romp and play and we take him for lots of walks and rides in the car. He has gone from a skinny 88 pounds when we first got him to a just right 120lbs . He loves children especially and has become very protective of myself and the family and property. We had two great Pyrs before Roy and they were a joy for all of us to have.I have taken them into retirement communities and they are always adored and loved. They are so gentle and soft and laid back. Roy sleeps in the house at night and has thwarted a burglary attempt. He really gave those two fellows a terrible scare that I am sure they will not soon forget.! He still is a little shy at times and attribute that to the abuse that was met out to him with his first owner and her boyfriend. He is especially distrustful of large teenage boys and large men ,but is overcoming this also. He has a great personality too. He is so fun to be with !! He is a gentle giant with a great personality and love of the outdoors. We are grateful to have such a fine dog as Roy. We are grateful to the Great Pyrnees Rescue for Roy and all the fine dogs that they find homes for and give a second chance.
Cindie Graber - Jul 6 1999 - 00.46 Omaha Nebraska Hi just took over the care of my sons 5 yr old Great Pyrenees. His name is Ruger and he is a very gentle baby. We love him and he has three playmates which are a 8 yr old Collie named Sadie and a 15 yr old Shelty named Abby also a 6 yr old Siamese named Mogie. Ruger has moved in and is very comfortable. My home is a much much bigger so he is more comfortable. We are home all of the time and my son and his wife are police officers and can't be around much at all and Ruger became very depressed. I child care for my grandchildren approx 70-80 hrs a week and they to are my sons and daughter-in-laws children. He is very happy and we have let him sleep where all the other animals sleep and that is with us. I'm glad we have him because he truly is a LOVE.
angela Dubois - Jul 5 1999 - 00.01 Manitou I just got a Pyr puppy today...he is 6 months old, we have named him BooBoo. All that I have read about these dogs has made me convinced he will be a great adddition to our family.
Debbie Rising - Jul 3 1999 - 18.14 Pittsburgh Pennsylvania I have one Great Pyrenese, she is 3 1/2 years old, and I bought her while living in Arlington, Texas. Her name is Whitney "Jo". The reason behind the name is that we drove 150 miles to pick up my puppy after seeing the ad in the paper. I wanted a unique name, something different, and then just as I said it, we passed a sign for the town of Whitney, TX. I knew then, that would be her name, when I saw her, I loved her instantly...I gave her the middle name just because it seemed so cute, since I got her in Texas. She is my baby... I love her so much, and we've been through so much together. I've been ill, and she's always at my side. she has been a very ill dog as well. As a puppy, she came down with an irritable bowell disease, and could not digest dog food for the first year and a half she was with me. I cooked for her daily...chicken, rice, potatoes, veggies... now, she does well with Pedigree dog food... she is not as filled out as a healthy pyrenses. She is 75 pounds, but to me she is perfect, and she is just as beautiful as any other Great Pyrenese I've ever seen. I can't have children, but whitney is my child. I recently had her shaved at the groomers. She has hair, but it's only about 1 1/2 inches long, and she looks great, and seems very content with it as well. She is my baby, my best friend, and I wouldn't give her up for the world. I recently heard about a Great Pyrenese Rescue. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. These dogs are wonderful. We had a dog that was part pyrenese, and part golden retreiver...that's how I knew how great these dogs are... if you're thinking of one...you can't go wrong...they're the best!!!
Linda Cobb - Jul 3 1999 - 06.41 Leslie GA We have three Great Pyrenseese. They are wonderful herd dogs and well as great companion dogs.
kerry hockham - Jul 2 1999 - 18.09 Greatford Lincolnshire Am researching for a dog to buy for the family. Have 2 children 11 and 8, and wish to have a good dog that can be kenneled at night outside but will not destroy the house if it comes inside during the day. I have heard the Great Phyr, likes to bark in the evenings, is this true and can they be trained out of it. Will they stay within the confines of the property or will they roam unless fenced in. Any advice would be appreciated as we are seriously looking into a dog but not yet made up our minds to which breed.

Patrick Best - Jul 1 1999 - 11.25 Toronto Ontario We have a 12.5 year old female named CJ. She is a large female weighing 125 lbs. She is a beloved member of our family. One of her litter mates (along with another Pyr) worked a sheep farm just north of here until their retirements 3 years ago. They have been replaced by 2 younger Pyrs and now live pampered lives with great families. Prior to using Pyrs to guard his sheep, the farmer was losing 10-12 sheep/lambs a year to coyotees and wild dogs. Upon getting his 2 Pyrs, the lose rate went to one in the first year with the dogs (the farmer backed over one of the sheep with his tractor) to no loses in the last 10 years. Pyrs really are the Great Guardians.

Raven - Jun 28 1999 - 23.11 MA Recently had new arrival of second polar bear. First one is Oberon, 7yrs. and new to the family is 3mo. Taliesen. Two totally different personalities, wasn't sure how Oberon would react to losing status as only child, but when we weren't looking or he didn't think we were looking, he was very curious and protective with the little one. Love them both, couldn't imagine the family without the boys.

He's 4 years old, is exceptionally large (even for a Pyr) and has a very handsome face. He also has a sweet and gentle disposition. Once the fence gets installed in the backyard, we are thinking of getting him a companion....preferably a Pyr! |
Maria Hopkins - Jun 20 1999 - 23.09 Phoenix Arizona We have been fortunate to have a Great Pyr live with us for the last 3 years. She is the sweetest, kindest dog and has brought MUCH joy & happiness to all of us. There's no match to a Great Pyr!
Taralee - Jun 20 1999 - 11.36 San Diego CA My fiance and have have recently fell in love with a freinds 2 great pyrenees and are now in the market for one ourselves. We would love to hear about some local breeders. Thank you.
david smith - Jun 19 1999 - 06.48 bicester I have just aquired our little 2yr great pyreness..
Anna Adams - Jun 18 1999 - 22.41 Corpus Christi TX A friend of mine has a wonderful Pyr. I have wanted one forever, but did not want to subject one to the heat down here. I am moving to Montana in 4 to 6 weeks and would really appreciate a referral to a breeder so that I can order a puppy. She will have 40 acres to roam on and a fenced yard. I also have four other dogs, one a male, so I would prefer to have a female puppy. I am also interested in your Rescue Program. My other dogs are getting older and won't be with me too much longer. So I would be very interested in the Rescue Program. Thank you for this wonderful Web site.
Cindy Gibbens - Jun 18 1999 - 15.45 Thousand Oaks CA We have two Pyrs and we just love them. My best friend had two and I fell in love with hers about 5 years ago. We have a 3 year old male, Beau, and a 6 month old, female, Maja. We just love them. They are wonderful with the family and love our kids. I know I will always have a pyr in my family. They are great watchdogs and just love to be with the family. They love their walks, and love to play with each other. Everyone remarks on how "BIG" they are, but to us they seem like medium sized dogs. We don't mind combing them and get them groomed quite often, which they both love. I just love my babies!!
David Ross - Jun 18 1999 - 10.26 Dallas Texas My wife and I have two "Pyr's", George and Sophie. I have several questions reqarding Summertime grooming and exercise of this breed. George loves to walk with me, no matter how far. Is this alright for him? He's approximately 4 years old (we rescued him, so we don't know exactly) and won't complain about walking 3 miles with me at good pace...other than extremely heavy panting when we get back which lasts for a good hour or so. I just want to make sure I'm not overexercising him. Anybody have any comments?? Also, I have heard different schools of thought on grooming Pyr's in the Summer heat. I live in Dallas, Texas, so it is regularly 100 degrees througout the Summer. Both of my "children" stay inside all day and night, other than when they want to go outside in the backyard or for walks. Some people I have spoken to say cutting or shaving their hair only makes things worse, which I find hard to believe. Any thoughts out there?
Nicole Lovell - Jun 18 1999 - 09.19 Charlotte North Carolina I am soon going to be the proud mother of a Pyr pup...this is a great site!
gill - Jun 16 1999 - 17.04 We have the two best dogs in the world and I defy anyone to disagree, their names are Belle, almost three years old and Paddington, almost two. These dogs are better than we ever imagined they would be, wonderful with children and I could write for hours about how wonderful they are. They only have one minor problem which is surmoutable, one whenever we walk them amlong people we are stopped every two yards while they are admired etc., consequently our walks take a long time and now the dogs have come to expect the praise from strangers. Byt seriously we wouldn't change a thing about either dog they are just adorable.
Sara - Jun 15 1999 - 13.28 Somerset Kentucky I recently became acquainted with this fine breed of work dog. My boyfriend has sheep and border collies, and just got a Pyr. She's wonderful- never shows aggression toward me or the border collies, but will let everyone else know to stay away! Coincidentally, a Pyr showed up at my apartment door a few days ago. Very friendly, likes my smell after I've been at the farm with the sheep. Don't know who he belongs to, but my neighbors are looking after him for now. I wish we could keep him on the farm, but we ony have a small flock, just enough for one dog!
JUDY GIBSON - Jun 15 1999 - 00.26 BLANCHESTER OHIO WE JUST GOT A NEW PUPPY, 8 WEEKS OLD, AND SHE IS JUST WHAT WE EXPECTED- DELIGHTFUL- HER NAME IS ANNIE, WE HAD A GROWN GREAT WHITE, SOMEONE WANTED TO GET RID OF, AND AS MUCH AS WE HATED IT, WE GAVE HER TO A FARMER WITH A HUNDRED ACRES SO THIS DOG COULD RUN, AND BE FREE. BUT WE ALWAYS WANTED ANOTHER. AT THE TIME, WE COULD NOT LET HER LOOSE HOW SHE WOULD HAVE LIKED TO BE, SO WE TRIED TO DO WHAT WAS BEST FOR THE DOG, AND NOT US, BUT IT BROKE MY HEART TO GIVE HER AWAY. NOW WE HAVE ROOM, AND THE SPACE A DOG NEEDS, AND I HOPE OUR NEW PUPPY CAN RUN, LIKE IZZY COULDNT: THESE ARE WONDERFUL WATCH-DOGS, THE BEST iI HAVE EVER HAD. THEY ARE SO LOYAL AND PROTECTIVE, I ALWAYS FELT SAFE WITH THESE DOGS ALONG

Terry C. - Jun 14 1999 - 19.33 New York We have a Great Pyrenees. We have had her for five months and it seems like she has been with us her whole life. We are her second family. She was three months short of 4 years old when we adopted her. We only wish we had been with her as a puppy and seen her then. We are all so thankful we have her. Couldn't think of a negative thing to say about her only positive things come to mind when we think of her.
Charlene Teneycke - Jun 14 1999 - 19.16 Thompson Manitoba I have a one year old female PYR named TUNDRA. My husband and I live in northern Canada and the winters can be very cold and harsh. The temperature can dip to 40 degrees below zero and we have yet to see her shiver. She's VERY protective and quite territorial. She loves kids and could sit there and be patted all day. We find it amazing that a white dog can stay so clean. We will definately stay with this breed and would enjoy hearing from other owners.
