Zodiac is our first Pyrenees and we find him delightful. A bit strong headed at times but you have to admire him for his spirit! He is very affectionate and gives wonderful "hugs". We also have 2 Irish Wolfhounds and guess who rules the roost - even though he is several inches/pounds smaller?! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard, "He is such a beautiful dog" ...we're very proud!

We have an eleven month old pyr, she is so independent, but loves sleeping with someone at night (which is me, and I have a twin bed). She loves to tear fillings out of things, and loves the sound of ripping material, give her a bathtowel and she is happy for hours. She is very energetic, we thought she would be calm, just the opposite, she has certainly livened up our days.

We share our lives with three Great Pyrenees...the mother, Annie, is allowed to roam freely on our farm located in the beautiful foothills of Sunny Alberta but doesn't go far as her grown pups, a male, Nanook and a female, Mateus, are kept penned with our flock of Rideau Arcott Sheep. They are so loveable, patient, kind and happy. Very much a part of our family, especially since our children are grown and have left home to start their own lives. I don't know what my life would be like without them. Annie is very much a campanion for me.

We are getting our first Great Pyrenees on Dec. 20th... He was born on 10/25, and will be 8 weeks old when we pick him up. We picked him out of a liter of 4 pups. I previous dog was a Siberian Husky, so we learned allot from him and are planning on giving our new pup a wonderful life here in Texas. He will have an acre of fenced in land to run around on.. Not much, but it's all I can do. We will do walks with him daily, as I do take walks around the neighbourhood on a daily basis. Thanks for your great Web Site

I need any information on raising a great pyrenees! I saved one from the humane society, she is seven months old and they said full grown very large, I haven't seen one this big. I need more information on raising her with her temper, and walking her on her leash, i have to use snacks to get her to do this, haha! She is kept in my house and i have several dogs in here and one boy that she doesn't like, can you recommend anything? he is a small cocker spaniel dog. Never even messes with her but she doesn't like him. and would appreciate it if you can send me any information if you have ever know any of these dogs to turn on their owners. I love this dog very much and want to take extra good care of her. The humane society didn't want to let her be adopted I don't know why, I guess becouse she is so large. I know nothing about how she was treated before or who had ber before me but she seems fine then at times she just cannot stand this other dog of mine. I have only had her for two days but hope that I will have her for a very long time. please email me any information that you can thank you so much tina thornton

I am doing some "research" on these beautiful dogs. I work at a restaraunt in a little country town and was looking for a special friend to share our lives with, a local sheep breader happen to bring his little treasure, one of many that his lady had, and I just knew that I had to learn more about these animals. I am really looking forward to becoming a proud addition to Simons small family.

I have a 9 month old female (ABBEY) and she is the love of my life. She brings me more joy then I can ever tell people. She is in training for obedience, and is doing great. She is my youngest grandsons friend he is 16 months old and loves her. Abbey goes to Senior Citizens Homes and shows them what she learned and loves pet time. I have an interest in getting this type of dog, especially if I could save one from a shelter. I am used to large dogs, as I have had a number of wolfhounds in the past. My husband and I live on seven acres in a rural part of Ct. and we have five children and four grandchildren who come to visit. Our last dog passed away last May, and I would hope to have found another pet in the spring. We love animals and have a large yard and I have plenty of time to share with it. Any advice you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks. so much.

Great web site. We are new Pyr owners. We have a seven month old male. He weighs 72 lbs two weeks ago when he was in for a post op check up from nootering. We live on five acres in the Texas hill country and have 9 goats. We did not get him specifically for the goats. We wanted him as a companion first and goat dog second. We did quite a bit of research which started primarily with your web page and for that , thabk you very much. I have never seen a more loving dog and very smart. I have two questions: 1 Is 72 lbs at 7 months about average? 2 At what age do they attain adulthood? Thank you for your help. James Boldebuck Dripping Springs, TX

the first time i ever heard of a great pyrenes was at a nurse orientation. the girl newxt to me had one nd went on and on. we live on a farm and have spanish meat goats. i saw an ad in the nursing bulletin at work for a great pyrenese. called. visited. fell in love with the 4 month old puppy at first sight. could not get over the calmness of the puppy and her mother to a stranger. loved her so much i brought her in the house where i enjoy her love loyalty and calmness everyday. what a great dog for small children. i do not understand why they are not more highly recommended for families with small children.

We have been blessed with 3 wonderful Pyrs. Sadly, for different tragic reasons they have left our lives to join other beloved Pyrs and pets. We are giving great thought to bringing another Pyr puppy into our lives. After some 14 years with a Pyr around the house, you do miss them. Our last gentle giant was an 165 lb, badger marked, wonderful friend, D'artagne, who died at 10 years of age. We miss him greatly. A pyr in the family is not just a pet, they become a lifestyle and a true member of the family. Maybe for christmas Santa will.....

We have a 5yr old male Gr. pyrenees that we need to find a home for. We are currently traveling a lot due to a business we started a year ago and can no longer keep our animals. We need a good home for him and can provide a photo via the internet if requested. He currently has a lot of room to run as we have 2 acres fenced in. He has just been our pet for the past 3yrs and has not been trained to guard sheep. He is a great Stud dog if you wish to use him as stud purposes. Please contact us via the internet if you are at all interested. Thank you.

I was looking for a large dog to replace our huge golden retriever when he died. I searched the net and found the personality of the pyr was what I truely wanted in a dog. I found Aspen at a rescue. I had to beg my husband for weeks to be able to get her. He loves her now as much as I do. He actually said that he wouldn't mind having two! We also have an Italian Greyhound. What a pair.

Hi. Just stopped by your site--beautiful! We had a Pyr lady when I was a teen-ager: she sparked my interest in showing dogs. I'm disabled, and she was my companion and protector. She did for me, what we now know, that, Service Dogs do for disabled kids (even tho' she was never certified as such)--brought me out of my shell, gave me a sense of responsability, and, most importantly, was my best friend. I now have an Australian Shepherd whom I have trained as my own Service Dog, and whom I also show. (I also found a "fun fact" recently, that Aussies and Pyrs are genetically related (in a way this didn't surprise me, as I felt drawn to Aussies awhile back as my "next dog", and now I know That background is part of the attraction--life really does come full circle sometimes, doesn't it?

my mother has a Great pyrenees and she is the best dog in the world! When my kids are out on the swing set Sheba lays on the ground in front of the set and when the girls leave she follows them until they get to the door. I would not be able to let the outside alone without her with them. oh! And she loves my mothers cat! They are the best of friends. I look forward to one day having a Great Pyrenees of my own.
